Have mercy on us and on the whole world

August 29, 2010

It’s hard to be Roman Catholic these days. Almost indefensible, in fact. But as an ethnic Catholic, well, I just have no choice. It’s what I am. Like a Jew’s a Jew, I’m an Italian-Catholic.

The only way to do it, really, is to separate the faith from the very corrupt religious institution. And it is definitely corrupt. Ah, a discussion for another day.

On this Sunday morning, I bring to you part of the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy. It’s said on a rosary and it’s beautifully sung in this version. Actually, I had no idea the chaplet even existed until I was flipping channels in Tampa one day, years ago and came across EWTN, the Catholic channel. The beauty of the chant made me stop and listen.

I use it as a meditation, a centering technique.

I’m sorry that I can’t find the entire thing on video for you, but it’s apparently too long for Youtube. If you’d like to hear the whole thing, you can find it online in three parts. The anti-abortion rant at the end is gratuitous, ignore it. The prayer is great. You can buy this particular version from EWTN. Have a nice Sunday.
